The name "Glen Fiona" is Gaelic for "Valley of the vine" chosen in homage to the Irish heritage of the Figgins family (the other half being the Italian "Leonetti" -- yes, the same family -- Gary Figgins of Leonetti Cellar is Rusty's 16 year senior brother). The Figgins family has a long winemaking history -- from his grandfather, an Italian immigrant who made wine, and from his brother Gary (16 years older) who planted his first winegrapes when Rusty was 9 years old.

The original business was named Blue Mountain Cellars and had 5 owners, two of whom will have been bought out as of 01-Jan-1998. The first vintage in 1995 was made by Rusty at the Waterbrook Winery facilities. Since 1996, the wine has all been produced at the carriage house.

They have no vineyards of their own, but have ongoing contracts with many growers, in many cases whom he is the vineyard manager for. (He also runs his own business as a consulting vineyard manager.)

In Oct-2004, the label has been bought out by Silver Lake; Mike Haddox has been moved from the Rosa facility to winemaker for Glen Fiona.

The Wines: Current releases (Spring 1999)

Of special note:
Rusty says: At Glen Fiona, it is our hope to specialize in Rhone-style wines, namely, those made from Syrah, Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Viognier.
