Romeo Conca was a research chemist for ITT Rayonier who made wines at home in the style of his Italian ancestors for many years. In 1981 he took the step of becoming a commercial winery, producing 600 gallons his first year. Sadly, Romeo passed away in the spring of 1997 after a short battle with cancer.

His son Steve, who had originally helped in the construction of the winery and who had continued to assist his father in the winemaking, took over the winery along with his wife Sue. They are continuing Lost Mountain's tradition of producing hand-crafted red wines in an Italian style, though have focused on fewer varieties.

In 1998 they've expanded into another building, replacing and updating much of their equipment, facilitating an increase in production to 1000 cases. They're hoping to double production to 2000 cases within the next 5 years, however that's as large as they feel that can get and still remain family operated/handcrafted.

Of special note:
Lost Mountain does not add sulfites to their wines, which makes their wines ideal for those who are sensitive to sulfites (though small amounts occur naturally).

An Open Winery is held for two weeks at the end of June/early July each year, when the winery is open daily. During the summer, the winery is open every weekend, though the Concas are usually happy to host visitors any time with advance notice.
