Neuharth Winery was established by Gene and Maria Neuharth in the summer of 1979 just south of Sequim in an old dairy barn at 148 Still Road. They also planted some experimental vineyards including 33 French-American hybrids. Gene was a retired grape grower from Lodi, CA who moved to Sequim in 1973, and taught himself to make wines. Dan Caudill, who was originally an ivory carver in Alaska, joined Neuharth Winery in 1986, after working at, among other places, Langguth Winery and Cascade Mountain Cellars. Gene taught Dan what he had learned over the years about making fine dinner wines.

Sadly, Gene passed away in 1993, and Dan and his wife Sharon took up the reins of the winery, changing the name to Olympic Cellars in summer 1994. Dan was the winemaker with Sharon running the tasting room.

In the fall of 1997, Olympic Cellars moved to an even older barn 10 miles to the west, as the old location of Neuharth Winery was paved over for a badly needed Highway 101 Sequim bypass.

In 1999, Dan and Sharon sold the winery to Ralph and Kathy Charlton -- the story conitunes on the Olympic Cellars page.
